| Size Rank | 28th largest WSA in Wyoming |

Twin Buttes is right next to the Devil’s Playground WSA. They are both mountains of badlands, but when walking them they feel different. Twin Buttes is more barren–there are fewer juniper groves than on Devil’s Playground.
The summit of Twin Buttes is quite steep. There are two summits actually, go figure…. and each has a crown of cactus. It is a great place to watch the Uintas slowly rise.
Rockhounding is fantastic in this area.
News
The 1991 BLM recommendation was to combine this WSA with the Devil’s Playground WSA and turn them into Wilderness.
Access
Find the Flaming Gorge Reservoir on a map and look west of the gorge. You can get to both Devil’s Playground and Twin Buttes WSA from Highway 530, which runs south out of Green River. Just look for jeep tracks off that road towards the WSAs to approach from the east. The roads are impassable when wet (I really mean it!).
To get right to the WSA boundary takes high-clearance the way I went, but medium clearance would get you within a few miles.
Safety
The roads become impassable when wet. Don’t go out there when rain is forecasted. You probably won’t find any water in the WSA.
Infrastructure
None. No designated trails. There is a two track that has been closed that wanders about in the WSA.
