Black Ridge Canyon Wilderness - Mee to Knowles

Black Ridge Canyon Wilderness is tucked south of the Colorado river near Grand Junction. It doesn’t seem like it is visited that often, not much in the way of trails and you have to either float across the river or drive some dirt roads to get to it. All the better! It is hard to find solitude in Colorado.

Route

Hiked from the top of Mee Canyon across the plateau and down Knowles. A steep-sided canyon is Knowles. Some pothole water in May, but not a lot. Had a nice camper on the Colorado share some oreos. Hiking along the river cross country to Mee is not bad if you stay high on the mountain using sheep trails. Mee Canyon was fun. Make sure to go past the way up out of the canyon to check out the undercut cavern. Plenty of water in Mee in May.

May is really too hot. Would do again in March or April.
